Pollinet is a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) project built on Solana, designed as an SDK and runtime that enables the opportunistic distribution of blockchain transactions in environments with low, censored, or no internet connectivity. Drawing inspiration from biological pollination—where pollen grains are transported across distances by intermediaries like wind, insects, or water—Pollinet treats pre-signed Solana transactions as "pollen grains." These transactions are created and signed offline using Solana's nonce accounts for validity and replay protection, then propagated across peer devices via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks. Devices act as relays, storing and forwarding the transactions until they reach a gateway node with internet access, which submits them to the Solana blockchain for execution and broadcasts confirmations back through the mesh. Key technologies include: - BLE mesh for short-range, low-power propagation - Support for extensions like LoRa for longer-range relays in extreme scenarios Features such as: - LZ4 compression (reducing transaction sizes by 30-70%) - Fragmentation to fit BLE packet limits - Deduplication via unique IDs - End-to-end integrity checks ensure efficient and secure delivery without exposing private keys. Future extensions may include WiFi Direct and incentive mechanisms for relays. Additionally, as a Solana-based project, Pollinet can leverage Solana's ZK (zero-knowledge) compression for on-chain state management, which uses zero-knowledge proofs to compress account states and reduce storage costs by up to 1000x, further enhancing scalability and cost-efficiency for high-volume or data-intensive applications in constrained environments. Pollinet has received a grant from the Solana Foundation, recognizing its contributions to censorship resistance and decentralized access on the Solana network. This makes blockchain transactions resilient to censorship, network outages, disasters, or remote/rural conditions, promoting decentralized access and reliability.
