Shor's Algorithm can be applied to compromise blockchain security because it enables efficient factorization of large numbers into prime factors. Many blockchain systems, including Bitcoin, rely on asymmetric cryptographic algorithms such as RSA and ECDSA, whose security is based on the computational difficulty of prime factorization. Quantum computers using Shor's Algorithm can solve this problem exponentially faster than classical computers, exposing private keys from public keys. This threatens the integrity of blockchain transactions and could allow malicious actors to seize funds or forge transactions. As a result, blockchain technology will need to transition to quantum-resistant cryptographic methods, such as post-quantum algorithms, in the future.
